  11. Are You Serious? Yes.
  12. MAKE SURE TO READ BELOW BEFORE GETTING STARTED FOR THE FIRST TIME!
  13. ------------------------------------------------------------------
  14. You may be thinking…
  15. WHOA, WHOA, WHOA…WHAT HAPPENED HERE?
  16. But before you freak out, let me take a few minutes to explain.
  17. Bones now uses LESS or Sass by default. I'm no longer supporting
  18. the old-style.css file which contains regular css. If you're prefer
  19. using regular CSS, then feel free to modify this theme how you like
  20. and keep a copy as your own personal starting point.
  21. DON'T DISMISS IT JUST YET THOUGH, USING LESS or Sass ISN'T AS
  22. COMPLICATED AS YOU THINK.
  23. It does take a few minutes to wrap your head around, but it will all
  24. be worth it. Need a quick intro? Here are a few quick reads:
  25. http://coding.smashingmagazine.com/2011/09/09/an-introduction-to-less-and-comparison-to-sass/
  26. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND, if you are going to be working with
  27. LESS or Sass, that you work locally. Sass isn't readable by a browser
  28. and using a LESS js file to parse it on live sites can make your site sluggish.
  29. That being said, here are a few MUST HAVE TOOLS for working with a
  30. pre-processor: (You really only need one of them)
  31. CodeKit: (Highly Recommended)
  32. http://incident57.com/codekit/
  33. LESS App:
  34. http://incident57.com/less/
  35. Compass App: (Windows / Mac Users)
  36. http://compass.handlino.com/
  37. SimpLESS: (Windows Users)

  39. WinLESS: (Windows Users)

  41. These applications compile LESS or Sass into valid CSS. This
  42. way you can keep your production files easy to read and your
  43. CSS minified and speedy. Simply set the output to the
  44. library/css folder and you are all set. It's a thing of beauty.
  45. ---------------------------------------------------------------
  46. Remember, once you download Bones it's up to you how to use it,
  47. so go nuts. Set things up and develop in a way that's easiest for
  48. you. If LESS/Sass is still a bit confusing for you, then remove them
  49. and customize this template as you see fit.
  50. If you're frustrated with this new direction and don't like change,
  51. take a few minutes and think about how much better a developer you
  52. can become by just TRYING out new technologies. It may be tough at
  53. first but it WILL make you a better developer. TRUST ME ON THIS. Give
  54. it a week, maybe two, and you will never go back.
  55. Happy Developing!
